Apartment Furniture

Moving into a small studio apartment and with a tight budget of $150 I decided to design and build furniture myself. Hastily designed and built, the furniture is not pretending to be exquisite in its details or of high aesthetic significance, simply a justified solution within constraints. ½” OSB was used because it was cheap, brass colored 2” wood screws were used because they were left over in my toolbox, the table and bench received birch plywood tops because of my luck in a scrap pile. The plan was generated around an existing reading chair, positioned at an angle to softly divide the space into zones and extend travel time between the bathroom and kitchen. Around the chair are a table, bookshelf, printer cabinet, and bedframe (which includes shoe, large format drawing, and bag storage) are situated.  The OSB provides richness in color and texture which contrasts the bare white walls, the joinery is profane yet it complements the utilitarian nature of the material. The furniture is not yet beautiful, but it is not out of place, for now it fits: my room, my budget, my needs, and at least some of my desires.
